About Angel
Angel Santos is one of the racing drivers with great experience in national motorsport in Spain. Based in Mérida. In love with Extremadura, and its people, Extremadura in adoption –as he says- has found in these lands the quality of life that he needs when he is out of the circuits, and the stress that high competition entails.
After obtaining his master’s in marketing and Communication Management, he has always been related to the motorsport world, managing all kinds of sponsorships and promotions within it. But always looking for the opportunity that he had always dreamed of, to become a professional driver.
After having tested lower category cars, his opportunity came in 2006 when one of his clients trusted his possibilities and gave him the option to prove what he had talked about so much.
At the controls of a Ferrari 360 Modena, in his first foray into the world of motorsport, the Spaniard took third place in his first race. And in the second race of the weekend, and under a great flood he managed to pass under the checkered flag in first position on the mythical Italian track of Monza. Something unprecedented for a pilot without experience in the world of competition, and in a championship like the Gt Open International.
After this, the media poured into Santos, and also the trust of his sponsors, making the championship complete that year, including the Spanish championship of Gt.
Santos achieved victories at circuits such as Istanbul, Monza, Albacete, Montmeló… and various podiums, thus earning the respect of the rest of the riders, team leaders and brands.
In 2007, Angel Santos took an important step as a pilot, obtaining a project to represent Spain in the championship of the prancing horse brand "Ferrari Challenge".
And he was not disappointed in his first year in the championship, getting victories at circuits like Hockenheim (Germany), Misano (Italy), and podiums at circuits as technical as Paul Ricard (France).
The Spaniard secured pole position on the starting grid of his first Ferrari World Final, and despite having various difficulties on the Florentine track of Mugello, he obtained a fifth world position.
In the national GT that season he raced as an official Porsche driver with the Drivex team. Enrolled in the absolute category and with a much inferior vehicle, he achieved a creditable podium at the Estoril circuit, and was the first Porsche after the finish line in practically all races. Being the first Porsche driver at the end of the national championship.
In 2008, Santos established himself as a pilot. Being the first Spanish driver and the only one so far to get a podium in the difficult Ferrari World Finals. Proclaiming third in the world and first in Europe.
He is a driving instructor at the Spanish Pilots School. And for brands like Mercedes Benz, AMG, Porsche, Volkswagen, Ferrari, Toyota… having over fifteen years of experience in driver training.
He has won the 500 kilometers of Motorland in 2016, in a joint project of the Spanish School of Pilots and the University of Nebrija, being an official pilot for it. And obtaining a second place in the 3 hours of resistance of the Jarama, also for them.
Santos was the 2019 MEDnifico Award from the Extremeño Sports Museum for his sporting career.
Currently, he is part of the cast of pilots of the prestigious Spanish team Chefo Sport in the Spanish GT-CER Endurance Championship. Team with which Santos has been proclaimed champion of Spain of Resistance 2018 at the controls of a Peugeot RCZ Racing Cup. And in 2019 again with the Madrid team and a Renault Clio IV Racing Cup, he was about to be proclaimed two-time champion of Spain, but he narrowly escaped in the last race in Barcelona.
In the 2021 season Santos will be together with Chefo Sport the official Hyundai driver in the Spanish Touring Car Championship CET.
